In this chapter we will discuss the structure of a micro-controller based system that will

be used to build our robot. We will first discuss why we choose the 8051 as our processor

and we will introduce the 8051 family members and their differences. Then we will

discuss the fundamentals of the 8051 processor. In particular we will talk about the

memory model, the internal registers and their usage. Then we will discuss in detail the

design of the 8051 single board computer (SBC), which is the heart of our robot system.

Finally we will talk about the peripheral chips of our system and their functions.
