Based on the fork-join parallel programming model, the parallel part of a task can be executed on multiple cores simultaneously, while the serial part of the task can be executed on only one core. However, once a core is assigned, the core is occupied by the task until the task completes execution. Therefore, assigning suitable numbers of cores for different tasks is a key issue for system performance.
